I love doing interviews and my latest on The Tarot Talk Show was delightful. I “sat” with co-host Rebecca Brown and “Tarot Tim” Martin in the interview that just aired and really dove into what we collectively put forth as the number one topic of readings. It was all about my favorite topic – relationship readings. Rebecca Brown, a very sweet and knowledgeable tarot enthusiast pegged me as a “relationship expert” and asked me to open up about myself and my journey with tarot. “Tarot Tim” Martin, a very talented professional reader added humor about looking back at high school crushes. Interestingly, you may find people that you were interested in back then may be cause to ask yourself what you were thinking back then, if you were thinking at all. LOL!
One of the things we talked about pertained to why we are attracted to certain people and our relationship patterns. This is at the heart of my research and the basis of my book, ‘Tarot Coupling: Resources and Resolutions for Relationship Readings’ (Schiffer 2013). We all agreed that it is important to be able to read people and not just read cards. In my consultations, it is important to be able to put perspective on human behaviors that often are unconscious, yet play a big role in our motivation and why we do the things we do. As readers, we are seen as expert advisors and so it would behoove us to understand the undercurrents of the some of the perspectives found in psychology and how to relate and coach others through their life dilemmas.
Just like you would not trust your hair to just any stylist, you should take the same approach in choosing a spiritual advisor, psychic or tarot practitioner. I have spent a great deal of time researching and experimenting with ways to clearly understand many divination techniques and theories.
Brown and Martin also asked which cards I thought were indicative of relationship issues and maybe not so easily evident issues. This was a great lead into the types of common issues that seekers tend to need answers for when they get a reading. The most difficult issues that plague relationships are in my opinion, infidelity and jealousy. Interestingly enough, these can be the “cause and effect” of the other.
